Our Mission

The mission of Metropolitan Nephrology Associates is to provide the highest quality of care to patients in a compassionate, respectful and timely manner.  Our goals are to be an active partner in your health and to work with you in meeting your medical goals.  By providing a friendly and caring environment built on consistent and open communication, we want every experience you have with us to be a positive one.

Our History

Since its formation in 1971, by Drs. William A. Nickey, and Stephen S Levin, originally known as Nickey – Levin Associates, Metropolitan Nephrology Associates has been dedicated to the care of patients throughout the Philadelphia area. Our practice has enjoyed the trust of both patients and referring physicians, in providing expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease, fluid and electrolyte disorders, hypertension, post-transplant care, dialysis, and dialysis vascular access.

Today, the practice includes seven physicians and an advanced practice nurse. All physicians are board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology, and serve as faculty at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. We currently have hospital privileges within Aria Health, Roxborough Memorial Hospital, and Temple Jeanes Hospital.

The practice has several offices:

1) Castor Avenue known as our “Parkview” Office,

2) City Line Avenue, on the campus of The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, across the street from Saks Fifth Avenue,

3) Roxborough in the Medical Office Building attached to Roxborough Memorial Hospital, and

4) Temple Jeanes Hospital.

All of our office’s offer safe and convenient parking on site.

We provide the medical directorship for several dialysis units operated by Fresenius, a premier manufacturer of dialysis equipment and the largest provider of dialysis care in the world.

One unique practice aspect is our ability to provide direct vascular care including maintaining and perfecting dialysis access and peripheral vascular evaluation with treatment. These are performed at our vascular access center, Metro Vascular Center, conveniently located on Broad Street in the heart of Philadelphia, close to many major road ways.

Our office appointments for consultation are scheduled for one hour and return visits for 30 minutes. We never overbook, although waiting in the reception area may be necessary on occasion. We apologize in advance for any such inconvenience. We value our time and assume that patients do as well. To help us stay on schedule, please take into account the unpredictable aspects of traveling in the Philadelphia area when you plan your trip to our office.
